Fire at San Francisco Pier 45

On May 23rd, a fire that broke out at Fisherman’s Wharf resulted in a smoke cloud and high concentrations of particulate matter 2.5 pollution in the area.

See how the blaze affected the air quality, based on our measurements and model of eLichens air quality station eLos near the event.

eLichens detected two high peak of PM2.5 concentrations

  1. The first one occurred at 8am with our closest station showing a result of 26.7 PM2.5 rising to 29 at 9am and with the wind amplifying the smoke cloud in the area.

  2. At 10am a second peak is observed going to 37 PM2.5 concentration in the air that can cause serious consequences to your health on a short term such as : eyes & throat irritation, allergies, asthma, fatigue, headaches and congestion.

We have been the only pollution data provider to detect and study the impact on air quality in San Francisco during this rare event, with 25 active outdoor stations eLos continuously monitoring the air pollution.
